First of all, the Sibley Heart Center did a great job in helping take care of our daughter. We felt better about the situation knowing she was in such a great place & that hearts were the specialty. Kids at heart is a great organization that brings families together that have a loved one who lives with CHD. They are always doing different activities that include these kids who can't or don't always get included in everyday activities. Plus it give the kids dealing with this a change to see that they aren't alone, I think its GREAT & want to have my daughter included as much as possible.

When we were preparing for Matthew's surgery, we were looking for the best place in the world to take him. His cardiologist (who is not affiliated with Sibley) told us that we could go anywhere in the country and that whatever we chose to do, he would support us 100% but that if it were his child, he would take him to Dr. Kanter at Sibley. That spoke volumes to us - to know that a heart center is so great was in our own town. In addition to Dr. Kanter, the nurses and techs showed us to much compassion and care and love to Matthew and to us that we knew we were in the best possible hands! One particular day after our 2nd surgery, Matthew was having a tough day. For the first time in his life, he couldn't muster up a sime...the nurses recognized this and went and found the clowns and that's all it took! His smile was back.

Since James' release from the hospital, we have gotten involved with the Kids at Heart program. This program has helped to connect us with other parents of children with heart defects. It is so inspiring to see older children playing happily, and knowing that they had the strength to make it through. The Kids at Heart program has such wonderful events during the year as well. We really enjoyed the Christmas party this past year and look forward to many more events.
