Welcome to the Cooper Heart Project 2010

What is the Heart Project?
Cherry Berry Studio and Design and Burt Designs wanted to give back to the community by raising awareness of congenital heart defects (CHD). Cynthia Billingsley and Lisa Swanson with Cherry Berry Studio and Design, and Theresa Burt with Burt Designs, were confronted with CHD when Cooper, Lisa and Cynthia’s nephew, was born in 2007 with double outlet right ventricle (DORV) and VSD. Theresa’s daughter, Gracen, is also being cared for at Sibley Heart Center for a heart issue. Cooper was born with three holes in his heart. His parents, Nancy and Scott, did not know he had a CHD until a few days after birth. This sudden and unexpected news came as a surprise and it spurred a desire to raise awareness of congenital heart defects. We are currently booking sessions for our 2010 calendar. Please contact Cynthia Billingsley at 678-266-8953 or info@heartprojectcalendar.com .

How is Cooper?
At 4 months, Cooper was strong enough to have open heart surgery. He had a great recovery. At the time of printing, he is a strong, healthy 16 month old.

What is a congenital heart defect?
Congenital heart defects are structural problems with the heart present at birth. They result when a mishap occurs during heart development soon after conception and often before the mother is aware that
she is pregnant. Defects range in severity from simple problems, such as “holes” between chambers of the
heart, to very severe malformations, such as complete absence of one or more chambers or valves.
